As IPL 2025 moves into its crucial phase, the race to the playoffs is heating up. Traditionally, a team needs at least 14 points to stay in contention for a top-4 finish. However, if a team ends up with 14 points, Net Run Rate (NRR) could become the deciding factor. On the other hand, teams reaching 16 points almost guarantee themselves a spot in the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans & Delhi Capitals in Strong Position
Among the current contenders, Gujarat Titans are looking the strongest. With 4 wins in 5 matches, they already have 8 points on the board. From their remaining 9 games, they only need to win 3 more to be in a strong playoff position. Delhi Capitals are also having a solid season. They too have 8 points, having won all 4 of their games so far. Delhi still has 10 matches left, and just like Gujarat, they need at least 3 more wins to stay in the playoff zone.
KKR, Punjab, and RCB Still in the Hunt
Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are also very much alive in the playoff race. While not leading, these teams are within striking distance and will need to stay consistent in the coming games.

Trouble for CSK, Mumbai & SRH
While some teams are on the rise, others are slipping fast.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by MS Dhoni, are now in a do-or-die situation. With 8 matches remaining, they must win almost every game to stay in contention.
Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad are in the same boat. Both have played 5 matches so far but managed just 1 win each. This means they, too, now need to win nearly all their remaining games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
